Project Canada VS Australia Lesson 1: Introduction

Canada VS Australia
You have learned a lot of new English words, sentences and grammar in the past weeks.
But do you know anything about the English speaking countries? In the first year you worked on a project named: US-UK. You learned about the rich cultures both countries have. This year you will be working on two other English speaking countries, namely: Canada and Australia. Two opposite countries, but both inspiring nations.
Do you know their history? Do you know their traditions? Or even any sports? Can you come up with differences between Canada and Australia?

In the next six lessons you’re going to experience what both countries are like.
You’ll start to learn about the Canadian and Australian history and culture.
You’ll experience the richness of both countries.

The Canadian Flag
On February 15th, 1965, the modern Canadian flag, bearing its hallmark maple leaf, was raised for the first time on Parliament Hill. Today, the maple leaf is a recognized symbol of Canada; it has also come to symbolize unity, tolerance, and peace.
The maple leaf represents unity across the entire country- regardless of birthplace. It is an inclusive symbol, and by removing the association with the Union Jack on the old flag, the maple leaf has become a symbol of Canada's nationality and independence.
