- Know what kind of reading it is.
    examples: fiction story, news article or a blog

- Get the main idea fast, especially for long texts.

- Decide if the text is important or interesting for you to read.

When do we skim?
- Before we read for details.
- When we have a lot to read but not much time.

How do we skim?
Only read the important parts!

- Read the title, subtitles and subheadings to find out what the text is about.
- Look at the illustrations to give you more information about the topic.
- Read the first and last sentence of each paragraph.
- Don’t read every word or every sentence. Let your eyes skim over the text and look out for key words.
- Continue to think about the meaning of the text.
