Background information
After 14 years, two paintings by Vincent van Gogh – thought to be lost – were rediscovered. These paintings had been stolen from the Van Gogh Museum in 2002. The fast-moving thieves were in and out of the museum in just a few minutes. The robbery became world news, shocking the public. In September 2016 an Italian law enforcement team from the Guardia di Finanza was conducting an investigation near Naples and stumbled upon the two paintings Thanks to the efforts of the Italian and Dutch authorities, the paintings were released from custody fairly quickly and returned to Amsterdam.
For more information about these paintings, see the story on the Van Gogh Museum website.

This is one of Vincent's earliest paintings.
Vincent painted this little church to cheer up his mother, who had broken one of her legs. It's the church where Vincent's father worked as a minister.
