Past tenses

Explanation of past simple, past continuous and present perfect

SKIP: Past perfect, this will not be on the test

Past simple

Iets wat in het verleden is gebeurd en is afgerond

Vaak met een woord dat aangeeft dat het in het verleden was, zoals: yesterday, last week, in 2012

He played his first international match in 2012

Past continuous

Was/were + ww + ing

Iets wat in het verleden bezig was en een tijdje duurde

Je kan het ook gebruiken als twee dingen tegelijkertijd gebeurden

He was watching a tennis match when his friend called

Present perfect

Have/has + voltooid deelwoord

Iets is in het verleden begonnen en is nu nog merkbaar of bezig

Signaalwoorden: ever, never, until now, lately, since (+tijd), for (+tijd), (not) yet

Iets is heel kortgeleden gebeurd (vaak met just, today etc.)

The All Blacks have performed the Haka since 1884

They have just won their first match
