Instructions

In this activity, students will activate their prior knowledge using an ABC format. The students, individually or in pairs or groups of three, must try to come up with a word or a short phrase for each letter of the alphabet related to the new topic. They can use the ABC Brainstorm form in the attachment for this purpose. For a topic like World War II, the responses could look like this: Allies for the letter A, D-Day for the letter D, G for the term Geallieerden (Allies in Dutch), and so on.

You will use this activity, as it involves activating prior knowledge, at the beginning of a topic. You can choose to have the students do it independently or in pairs or groups of three. Additionally, you have the option to differentiate by not requiring the students to come up with a word for each letter but, for instance, for each letter block.

Aardappeloproer
1917
