What is it?

More and more teachers are using an exit ticket to close their lesson. Great! This form of formative assessment provides valuable information for both students and teachers. Moreover, the insights from an exit ticket serve as a good starting point for the next lesson(s). The idea behind a start ticket is similar: it helps you assess what knowledge and skills the students have as they begin the lesson. To what extent is essential (basic) knowledge and information still present? With a start or entrance ticket, you can measure this.

How do you use it?

This method can be used in every subject at the beginning of the lesson. Since it is a form of activating prior knowledge, you could alternate this method with a word map to avoid it becoming repetitive for the students.

Once the students have answered the questions, you review their responses. You can ask students to clarify their answers, or have them provide an explanation where needed.

LessonUp is an all-in-one tool for teachers. Create your complete lesson or use customisable lessons from fellow teachers, and deliver your interactive lesson in the classroom or remotely. Save time, increase student engagement, and track their progress on a secure, centralised online learning platform.
