Introduction

In the interactive Drag & Drop activity, students receive loose words, images, or statements that they need to drag to the correct box, image, or another place on the screen. It’s a flexible LessonUp feature you can use to create all kinds of interactive lesson ideas, fully tailored to your learning objective. What’s great about this visual activity is that it’s useful for much more than sorting words. By thinking creatively, you can use the Drag & Drop question as a digital quiz, ranking task, or educational puzzle. It becomes a creative quiz format that actively involves your students in the lesson content.

Instructions

Why is the Drag & Drop a powerful activity?
  • Active processing: Students actively engage with the material as they think about the right place for a term, image, or statement.
  • A lot of variety: From simple yes/no tasks to visual puzzles and ranking exercises.
  • Visual and interactive: Ideal for students who learn by doing and seeing.
  • Easy to adjust: You can quickly create a Drag & Drop question for any subject, from road signs to literary movements.
How do you create a Drag & Drop in LessonUp?
Creating a Drag & Drop in LessonUp is easy. Click here to learn more about creating a drag & drop question in LessonUp, or follow these four simple steps:
  1. In your lesson, click the + sign and select the Drag & Drop option. You’ll then see two parts: Drag Targets and Drag Components.
  2. First, add your Drag Targets. These are the boxes, images, or spots where students can drag items.
  3. Next, add your Drag Components — the words, sentences, images, or statements students need to drag to the correct place.
  4. You can decide whether multiple answers per box are allowed and if the components should stay in place after being dragged incorrectly.
How to use it?
The Drag & Drop question is surprisingly flexible and works in every phase of your lesson. Use it to practise terms, activate prior knowledge, or finish with a digital quiz. It’s also a handy online activity to quickly review content.

Examples:
  • English: Drag these idioms to the correct meaning.
  • Religious Studies/Citizenship: True or false — drag the statements about Eid al-Adha to the correct box.
  • History/Politics: Drag the politician’s head to the correct shirt.
  • Art Education: Drag the images to the right place in the painting or overview.
  • Diamond 9 ranking: Order nine components from most to least important.
  • Interactive hotspot question: Link an image to a question and display it while dragging.
  • Traffic lesson: Drag parts of a traffic sign together to create one complete sign.
