Form

you know:

 there are regular and irregular verbs in the  

 past simple. 

Irregulars, we 'll see about that later

 

So the regular ones are easy, don't you think?

Well let's see about that

base form + ed

q; Did = subject + base form

n: Subject + did not or didn't + base form

examples:

I played football every day

 when I was young

Did you play football?

I didn't play football

when verbs end in an -e you don't add -ed: love>>> loved

 

final consonant after a short stressed vowel is doubled, as is a verb ending in l:

admit (toegeven toelaten) >>> admitted

travel>>>> travelled

verbs ending in y sometimes change 

into -i>>> carry>>> carried

but play>>>played

who knows how you can tell the difference?

Turn it into past simple

example: 

I am 14 years old

Every day John , Lisa and I bike to school. Lisa is the fastest, so she is always ahead of John and me. But when we carry a very heavy bag we stay together very easily. We don't watch out enough because we always talk too much. Cars stop for us, anyway. Do we play dangerous games?

Our parents don't worry, we manage. We travel safely.
