Civil War
Definition:
A violent conflict within a country fought by organized groups that aim to take power at the center or in a region, or to change government policies
 
 


Defining traits:
  • High intensity conflict
  • Involving regular armed forces
  • Forces are sustained, organized, and large scale
  • May result in large numbers of casualties and the consumption of significant resources

Conventional Warfare
(War between states)


Defintion
A form of warfare conducted by using conventional weapons and battlefield tactics between two or more states in open confrontation. 
Defining traits:
  • Conflict between two or more different states
  • Well defined military forces on both side
  • Conventional weapons, and battlefield tactics

World War II
(A global war which lasted from 1939 to 1945. It involved the vast majority of the world's countries—including all of the great powers—forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis powers)

Russo Ukrainian War
(Following Ukraine's Revolution of Dignity, Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine and supported pro-Russian separatists in the war in Donbas against Ukrainian government forces; fighting for the first eight years of the conflict also included naval incidents, cyberwarfare, and heightened political tensions. Throughout 2021, bilateral tensions rose due to a Russian military buildup near the border with Ukraine, and on 24 February 2022, the conflict saw a major escalation as Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine

Guerilla War
Definition:
A form of irregular warfare in which small groups of combatants, such as paramilitary personnel, armed civilians, or irregulars, use military tactics including ambushes, sabotage, raids, petty warfare, hit-and-run tactics, and mobility, to fight a larger and less-mobile traditional military.

  •  Use of a small attacking, mobile force against a large, unwieldy force
  • Largely or entirely organized in small units that are dependent on the support of the local population
  • Focus on avoiding head-on confrontations with enemy armies
  • Guerrilla tactics are rarely used for anything other than defence

(A guerrilla war fought in Ireland from 1919 to 1921 between the Irish Republican Army (IRA, the army of the Irish Republic) and British forces: the British Army, along with the quasi-military Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) and its paramilitary forces the Auxiliaries and Ulster Special Constabulary (USC). It was part of the Irish revolutionary period)
