 Passive

Bij de lijdende vorm is het niet belangrijk wie iets doet, maar de actie is wel belangrijk. Dus wat er gebeurt.


Someone broke our kitchen window. > active
Our kitchen window was broken. > passive

Lijdende vorm

Het onderwerp van de zin ondergaat iets.

Het onderwerp voert de actie niet uit.


Example

Our kitchen window was broken by a burglar.

Hoe maak je een passive zin?

1. Het lijdend voorwerp uit de active zin vooraan zetten.

(wordt dus onderwerp!)

2. vorm van 'to be' toevoegen in de juiste tijd
am/are/is voor present simple

was/were voor past simple
Kijk goed in welke tijd de zin staat.
3. Werkwoord veranderen in een voltooid deelwoord.

(= derde rijtje of -ed)

 Jim is arrested by the police.

Modal verbs passive
Hulpwerkwoord (will, can, could, must, would)> + be + voltooid deelwoord
The police will arrest Jim.
Jim will be arrested by the police.
