What do you know already about WW1?

Imagine Europe in 1914. Which of these could cause a major war?

1. Two countries are competing to build the biggest army and navy.
2. Countries promise to help each other if they are attacked.
3. Different ethnic groups want their own countries and some want to destroy old empires.
4. Countries compete for colonies, resources and global power.

You wake up one morning and discover that a neighbouring country has taken something that belongs to your country.

Your government is furious.

You send them an angry message.

They refuse to give it back.

Your country starts preparing its army.

The other country does the same.

Newspapers start talking about war.

Other countries choose sides.

And what caused all this?

The Pig War

In 1906, Serbia tried to become less dependent on Austria-Hungary by selling its pigs to other countries, which led Austria-Hungary to impose a trade blockade. Serbia looked to Russia for support, turning a dispute over pigs into a much bigger struggle for power in Europe.
