Past perfect
Je gebruikt de past perfect als je iets vertelt over twee dingen die in het verleden zijn gebeurd. 
De ene gebeurtenis vond plaats voor de andere gebeurtenis. 
Het is dus: 'the past of the past'. 

Voorbeeld: He had worked that night before he crashed his car.

  • Als je wilt vertellen dat iets gebeurde voordat iets anders gebeurde in het verleden. 
       
   I had never flown in an airplane, before I went to London.

De vorm van de past perfect is:

had + voltooid deelwoord

voltooid deelwoord = ww + ed of 3e vorm onregelmatige ww
(walked / go-went-gone)

When he arrived to the train station the train had left.

I had lost my bike key so I decided to walk home.


The Past Perfect shows what happened first in the past.
