PAST SIMPLE: vt

You can use the past simple in 3 different kinds of sentences:

1. positive sentences (bevestigende zinnen)
2. questions (vragende zinnen)
3. negative sentences (ontkennende zinnen)

Slide 14 - Slide

regular verbs

I WALKED
YOU WALKED
HE/ SHE/ IT WALKED
WE WALKED

THEY WALKED
POSITIVE SENTENCES
irregular verbs

EACH VERB HAS IT OWN FORM, WHICH YOU CAN FIND IN THE 2nd COLUMN OF THE VERBS ON P.  204-205 OF YOUR BOOK)
.

Slide 15 - Slide

PAY ATTENTION!!!
You can't make questions and negative sentences in the past simple with the past simple form of the verb itself.
So not like this:
Walked you to school yesterday?
I walked not to school yesterday.
Instead, you need the auxiliary verb (= hulpwerkwoord) 'DID'
to make questions and negative sentences in the past simple.

Slide 16 - Slide

QUESTIONS:

DID I GO?
DID YOU GO?
DID HE/ SHE/ IT GO?
DID WE GO?
DID YOU GO?
DID THEY GO?
NEGATIVE SENTENCES:

I DIDN'T BUY
YOU DIDN'T BUY
HE/ SHE/ IT DIDN'T BUY
WE DIDN'T BUY
YOU DIDN'T BUY
THEY DIDN'T BUY

Slide 17 - Slide

THE VERB TO BE BEHAVES DIFFERENTLY FROM OTHER VERBS.

POSITIVE SENTENCES:
I WAS
YOU WERE
HE/ SHE/ IT WAS
WE WERE
YOU WERE
THEY WERE
   QUESTIONS:
WAS I?
 WERE YOU?
WAS HE/ SHE/ IT?
