There are many reasons for disappearing of forests like:-

  • Deforestation
  • Forest Fires
  • Agriculture expansion
  • Overpopulation
  • Climate Change

Slide 6 - Slide

Deforestation:-
Deforestation is the purposeful clearing of forested land. Throughout history and into modern times, forests have been razed to make space for agriculture and animal grazing, and to obtain wood for fuel, manufacturing, and construction.

Deforestation has greatly altered landscapes around the world. About 2,000 years ago, 80 percent of Western Europe was forested; today the figure is 34 percent.

Slide 7 - Slide

Forest Fires:-
Fires are a natural and beneficial element of many forest landscapes, but they are problematic when they occur in the wrong place, at the wrong frequency or at the wrong severity. Each year, millions of acres of forest around the world are destroyed or degraded by fire. The same amount is lost to logging and agriculture combined. Fire is often used as a way to clear land for other uses such as planting crops. ,

Slide 8 - Slide

Agricultural Expansion:-
Further expansion of the predominant farming types that rest on a small number of highly productive crops has led to a significant loss of biodiversity on a global scale already. Moreover, agricultural expansion continues to be the main driver of deforestation and forest fragmentation.

Slide 9 - Slide

Overpopulation:-
As agriculturally based population density increases in and near forested areas, the strongest relationship between population growth and deforestation occurs, as local people and young migrant families arrive at the forest frontier and clear land to provide more area for subsistence farming. The poorer the soil quality, the lower the agricultural production per hectare.

Slide 10 - Slide

Climate Change:-
Forests role in climate change is two-fold. They act as both a cause and a solution for greenhouse gas emissions. Approximately 2.6 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide, one-third of the CO2 released from burning fossil fuels, is absorbed by forests every year.
