Lesson goals

- At the end of the lesson, you are familiar with vocabulary used in film production.

- At the end of the lesson, you're able to use the vocabulary in real life situations.

Why is it important to understand film production vocabulary?

What does Editing mean?

1. Selecting, arranging, and combining shots into a final sequence.
2. Shooting a scene.
3. The final production.
4. Focussing on the lighting during a scene.

HDTV (High Definition Television)

1. A TV system with lower definition than the standard one.
2. A TV system with the standard-definition.
3. A TV but with a famcy name.
4. A TV system with higher definition than the standard one.

Post-Production

1. The phase of film production before shooting & editing.
2. The phase of film production after shooting & editing.
3. The phase of film production whilst shooting.
4. A phase in a film production.

Video Camera

1. A device that's never needed when shooting.
2. A device that can only be used for one purpose.
3. A device that only captures images.
4. A device that captures images/videos.

Still Camera

1. A device that captures films.
2. A devices that captures everything.
3. A device that captures single, still images rather than videos.
4. A device that captures flies in the air.

VO (Voice Over)

1. Narraration/dialogue spoken off-camera or added later during PP.
2. Narraration/dialogue spoken during auditions.
3. Narraration/dialogue spoken during rehearsals.
4. Narraration/dialogue spoken during shootings.

Tripod

1. A one-legged stand used to stabilize a camera.
2. A two-legged stand used to stabilize a camera.

Lavalier

1. Huge microphone that can be clipped onto clothing.
2. Small microphone that cannot be clipped onto clothing.

Boom

1. A short pole with a microphone to capture sound from a distance.
2. A long pole with a microphone to capture sound from close by.

Ambient Sound

1. A random noise in a scene.
2. The background noise in a scene.
3. Singing.
4. A sensitive noise in a scene.

Close-Up

1. A zoomed-in frame shot showing someone's face or detail.
2. A zoomed-in frame shot showing the whole screen.
3. A zoomed-in frame shot showing nothing much.
4. A frame shot used to capture butterflies.

Fade

1. A haircut done by barbers.
2. A sound that flies by really quickly.
3. A transition between charachters.
4. A gradual transition between 2 scenes. dark to scene or opposite.

Jump Cut

1. A sudden, abrupt cut between two sounds.
2. A sudden, abrupt cut between two auditions.
3. A sudden, abrupt cut between two scenes.
4. A sudden, abrupt cut between two melodies.

Pan

1. Fixed vertical camera movement rotating from left to right.
2. Fixed horizontal camera movement rotating from left to right.
3. Fixed horizontal camera movement rotating from up and down.
4. Fixed vertical camera movement rotating from up and down.
