Een gerund (werkwoord + -ing) gebruik je als een zelfstandig naamwoord.
Je kunt een gerund gebruiken na werkwoorden als:

Wanneer gerund?
  • Werkwoord als zelfstandig naamwoord.
Smoking is bad for you.
  • Na bepaalde werkwoorden zoals: enjoy, mention, keep etc.
I enjoy reading a good book.
  • Na bepaalde uitdrukkingen zoals: 
can't stand, can't help, it's no use etc.
I can't help feeling sad.
