What do you know about the Industrial Revolution?

Slide 4 - Mind map

The industrial revolution
Starts in England around 1750.
> The populations had grown
> Farmers produced more and more food because of new tools and methods
--> This caused that less people were needed on the land
--> Field workers moved to the cities to look for other work

Slide 5 - Slide

The Industrial revolution
Other sectors were growing as well because of entrepreneurs trying new things to make as much profit as possible.
- Textile industry: Spinning wheel was replaced by a wooden machine that ran on streaming water.

Industrial Revolution - Steammachines
Around 1800 the steammachine was invented. Water was heated by coal and formed steam. Because of the steam pressure a machine had energy.

Slide 8 - Slide

Industrial revolution - Steammachines
Consequences:
> Production was faster
> Need for coal mines, iron factories and machine factories
> New transportation like steamships and steamtrains
--> Coal could be transported faster & in larger quantities
--> Products could also be much easier transported to the consumers

Slide 9 - Slide

Industrial revolution
At the beginning of the industrial revolution, inventions were made by individual inventors.

At the end of the century companies had their own labatories where people worked on improving products and inventing new ones.

The industrial society
agricultural society makes place for industrial society
- More than 50% lived in cities
- More than 50% worked in industrial sector
  > Only 9 % worked in the agricultural sector

The service sector (dienstensector) grew as well

Slide 11 - Slide

Which three other types of society do you remember?

Slide 12 - Mind map

The Industrial society
Industrial society was possible because:
> Farmers kept productions high but dit not need more workers
> The unemployed left for the city and worked there in factories

The working class grew, but the lived in bad conditions (low wages, no personal connection to the boss)
> Also bad influence on the environment (smog etc)
