Good thesis/statements
  •  Are debatable: it must be something someone could have a different opinion on.
  • "Pollution is bad for the environment" vs. "At least 25 percent of the federal budget should be spent on limiting pollution".

  • "Drug use is detrimental to society" vs. Illegal drug use is detrimental because it encourages gang violence".

  •  Choose the topic of your mock essay
  • Make a quick outline of your introduction: Think about a hook, look up some general information and think of a thesis.
  • If you are finished with your outline, share it with your neighbour. Give feedback on each others outline and thesis (Be critical, ask questions).
  • Start writing your introduction.
