  • 499 BC
  • Ionian cities revolted against the Persian Empire.
  • They were helped by Athens and Thebes.
  • The Persians ended the revolt.

  • Persian army send by Darius to destroy Athens.
  • Battle at Marathon (42 km from Athens).
  • Persians retreat back to Persia.
