What is a Plant?

Plants are living things that grow in the earth. They need sunlight, water, and air to live and grow.

Parts of a Plant

Plants have roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and sometimes fruits. Each part has a special job to help the plant live.

Roots

Roots help anchor the plant in the soil and absorb water and nutrients.

Stems

Stems support the plant and help transport water and nutrients to the leaves.

Leaves

Leaves make food for the plant using sunlight in a process called photosynthesis.

Flowers and Fruits

Flowers help plants make seeds. Some plants grow fruits to protect their seeds.

Why Are Plants Important?

Plants give us oxygen, food, and shelter. They are vital for the environment.
