Everything that you need to know is in this handout when it comes to Shakespeare's life (where he was born, the types of plays he wrote and their characteristics, what made him so popular, the globe, his sonnets). 

Next week you will receive a handout about the merchant of venice.

Then, underline what made Shakespeare so popular according to the text and discuss this in Dutch. 

Finally, underline what the key aspects are of each type of play according to the text and discuss this in Dutch.

Shakespearean Sonnets 

These sonnet contain 14 lines that follow a strict rhyme scheme: ABAB - CDCD- EFEF - GG and are written in iambic pentameter. 

Most of his sonnets contain themes like love, jealousy, immortality, beauty, infidelity.
