Causes and effects
Cause and effect is the relationship between events where one event (cause) makes another event happen (effect).

Cause: The French government was deeply in debt due to expensive wars and lavish spending by the monarchy. The people were heavily taxed while the nobility and clergy paid little to nothing.
Effect: Frustrated by economic hardship and inequality, the people revolted in 1789, leading to the overthrow of the monarchy and the rise of a new government.
