(We noemen 'if-sentences' over mogelijke situaties ook wel de 'first conditional').

Bestaan uit 2 delen:
- Bijzin met voorwaarde (ook wel if-zin)
- Hoofdzin (met logisch gevolg)

Dus bijvoorbeeld:
You will pass the test, if you practice.
If we miss the bus, we will get a taxi.

Een 'first conditional' wordt altijd op dezelfde manier gebruikt:

Present Simple               +               Will + hele ww.
