INGESTION
  • With your mouth you bit and chew your food. You ingest the food.
  • This helps to break your food into smaller pieces and mix it with saliva.
  • You do this in your mouth and with your teeth. 
  • Food moves onto your oesophagus.
  • Your saliva contains enzymes that help to start the digestion of your food.

DIGESTION
  • Digestion is the process of breaking 
       down large molecules into smaller ones. 
  • The organs that do this are called 
        your digestive system.
  • Enzymes are molecules that help break 
      down your food.
  • Most digestion with enzymes happens in 
      the oesophagus, stomach and small intestine.
  • The liver helps to make a bile, it is stored in your 
        gall bladder. This helps break down fats which helps with digestion.

ABSORPTION
  • After most of the digestion is done , the nutrients move on to be absorbed.
  • Most nutrients are absorbed in the  small intestine. 
  • Water and a few final vitamins are absorbed in the large intestine.

  • Anything your body cannot absorb is combined to form faeces. (scientific work for poop)
  • This faeces is moved towards your rectum and stored there till you go to the toilet. When it is egested.
