  1. Britain was very important for the Netherlands in World War 2.

  3. Britain used propaganda to boost morale and encourage war support.

Propaganda techniques
  1. Nationalism.
  2.  Fear. 
  3. Glorification. 
  4. Name-calling. 
  5. Repetition/ simple messages/ exaggeration. 

  • Pay attention to the headlines, the language, the pictures
and the hidden symbols.

  3. Fear: the man feels ashamed, because he did not fight in the war .

  • Work in groups of two. 

  1. Choose a topic (real or fictional):
  • A war between two countries;
  • A new political leader;
  • An invention that "saves" the country;
  • A sports match between two teams;
  • A fictional enemy that must be defeated.
2. Write an article (100 words) that:
  • Tries to persuade or influence the reader;
  • Includes at least two propaganda techniques (e.g. fear, hero worship, nationalism);
  • Includes at least three theme words or vocabulary from ch.5. Underline or highlight these in your article. 
  • Has a clear headline/title;
  • Sounds believable, as if it were published in a newspaper.

  1. Create a video in which you tell me: 
  • Which topic you chose for your article and why. 
  • What propaganda techniques you have used in your article, why and how I can recognize them in your article. 
  • What you thought of this newspaper project. Did you learn something new? Was it fun? Or boring? Also explain your answer. 

Your video has a length of approximately 2 minutes. 
Submit your article and video in google classroom by thursday the 19th of July 23.59.
