Central Park in New York is the most famous park in the world. You've probably seen it on TV. It measures almost 500 football fields! It has a zoo and a  museum. Many New Yorkers go to the park to relax, walk, jog, cycle or play sports. In the winter you can even skate there.

In 1625 the Dutch built a fort on the coast of America: Fort Amsterdam. In 1653 in became a city: New Amsterdam. That lasted only a short time: in 1664 it became New York, when the English occupied it after a war. You can still find Dutch names and words in New York: Harlem, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Bleecker Street, Wall street, Yonkers, etc.

You don't have to sit down to eat great food in New York. You can find great food on the streets. Next to  hotdog and pretzel carts, there are food trucks that serve all kinds of food from a tiny kitchen.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday in Canada and the United States. Thanksgiving in the U.S. is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It was originally a day of giving thanks for the harvest. For most Americans thanksgiving means meeting family and friends and eating turkey. For many it also means watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV.
