Introduction:

During this theme you will learn about World War 2 through the book 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas', and through mini-history lessons. 

You will learn about the five elements of a story, which you will use while writing a book assignment. These elements are: Setting, characterization, symbolism, conflict, and plot.

Grade/ Assessment:

You will also improve your listening skills through an audiobook, documentaries, and fragments of film, which will help you prepare for your listening test A2 in period 2.

The assessment during this theme is: 

• A book test on the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas in period 3

Book Assignment:

In total you will have to write 5 assignments.  You can use these assignments for your test in period 3: 

• Spelling and vocabulary;
  
• Grammar and sentence structure;
  
• Effort put into the assignment;
  
• Word count;
  
• Creativity.

This period we will be reading the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Part of it will be read in class, but part of it you will have to read on your own. 

Open the PDF of the book:

You can find it in Magister. Download it now on your device (phone, Ipad, laptop)!

We will start reading together and finish Chapter 1.

Work on first assignment:

You will now start on assignment 1 of the book assignment. Use the information you received during the lesson today, and look up more information online. Make sure you write everything in your own words. Write your summary.

Silently read Chapter 2 + 3 

Setting:

Social conditions, historical time, geographical locations, weather, immediate surroundings, and timing are all different aspects of setting.

Name one tv show or movie that you like and describe the setting (time, place, location etc..)

Homework:

• Read chapter 2 till 5 at home.
• Finish assignment 1 (minimum 200 words on each chapter you have read) you can also do this in class after your regular assignments in All Right.
• Do a drawing of the firt few chapters that capture the main idea of the book. Bring your drawing to class next week.
