At the end of this class you can describe:
- how to transpose questions from direct to indirect speech
- how to deal with the imperative when you transpose direct speech to indirect speech

Questions
Open questions: Interrogative pronoun - who / where / why / when / how, etc. 
  • Where do you live? = She asked me where I lived.
Closed questions (yes/no), start with a verb.
  • Have you seen my dog? = She asked me whether/if I had seen her dog. 
  • Did you go to school today? = He asked me if I had gone to school on Tuesday.
  • whether is more formal, if is more informal. 
  • use whether after a preposition

Imperatives
Imperatives are transposed into reported speech by using 'told me/you/him/her/us/them to ....'
  • She told us: Do this! Do that! Don't do that!
She told us to do this. 
She told us to do that. 
She told us not to do that.
