Woordvolgorde is de manier waarop een Engelse zin opgebouwd is uit woorden.

Je houd een bepaalde volgorde aan van verschillende woorden en daar vorm je een correcte Engelse zin mee.

Woordsoorten
Elk Engels woord hoort bij een woordsoort.
I - we = persoonlijke voornaamwoord
go = werkwoord
to the zoo = plaatsbepaling
always = bijwoord van frequentie
the = lidwoord

To be: am – is – are – was – were
He is always late.
We were never married.

De bijwoorden komen voor het werkwoord, als er maar één werkwoord in de zin staat (dat géén vorm van to be is).
I usually go to school by bike.
We sometimes watch a horror film.

De bijwoorden komen na het eerste werkwoord als er meer werkwoorden in de zin staan.
