The founding of Rome

Rome was founded, according to a legend, by two brothers named Romulus and Remus. 

Their story involves everything Romans thought of as important and essential.

Early Rome

•  Built on seven hills next to the river Tiber.
• Monarchy = Ruled by a king
• The king was advised a group of nobles= senate
• Favourable position

• The last 3 kings were bad Etruscan tyrants.
• The last king was exiled.
• The name of the last king = Tarquinius Superbus in 753 BC

• Republic= country without a king.
• Now 2 consuls ruled= rulers for 1 year.
• During war 1 consul would become dictator for 6 months. =legal ruler with all the power.
