Genitive gebruik

Genitive wordt meestal gebruikt om een bezit aan te duiden:

Nederlands:      Moeders boormachine,  de auto van mijn vader  
Engels:              Patrick’s family, their client’s wishes, our first  
                 meeting, etc.

 

Possessive

De Possessive wordt  gebruikt om een bezit aan te duiden:

Nederlands:  Saskia's moeder, de motor van
                       mijn broer,
 de ramen van het huis.
Engels:           Patrick’s family, their client’s wishes, 
                         the windows of the house.

Bij personen en dieren in enkelvoud:


 Je zegt in het Engels eigenlijk nooit 'the car of John', maar: John's car. 's komt na het zelfst. naamwoord :
