• Citizens. People born in a polis. He had rights and influence.
• Other free man were peolpe born outside the polis, they did not have rights or influence.
• Slaves and women did not have any rights or influence.

• Ch. 2.1 exc 4 till 8.
• Ch. 2.2 1 till 7.

Protect democracy

• If one person became too powerful, he could be banned.
• The Athenians wrote the name of the person they hated on a piece of broken pottery.
• If you're name was on too many piece, you must leave the city.
• This is called ostracism.
