Bij if gebruik je de Past Simple en in het andere zinsdeel would + een werkwoord. If I won the lottery, I would buy a car. 2

De second conditional wordt gebruikt als het niet waarschijnlijk is dat iets gaat gebeuren, nu of in de toekomst.

Als ik koningin zou zijn dan zou ik al mijn geld aan schoenen.
(dit gaat natuurlijk nooit gebeuren!)

If I were Queen, I would spend all my money on shoes.
(If + verledentijd) en in het andere zinsdeel would + werkwoord
