Adjectives zijn woorden die informatie geven over een noun (zelfstandig naamwoord = persoon of ding)


  • The weather is cold
  • We bought a red scooter
  • The teacher was angry
  • He has a big car

Wat zijn adverbs?

Adverbs zijn woorden die iets zeggen over een verb (werkwoord), adjective (bijvoeglijk naamwoord) of adverb (bijwoord)


  • He works slowly.
  • My computer is extremely slow.
  • This old computer works extremely slowly.

Hoe verander je een adjective naar een adverb?

  • 1. Meestal komt -ly achter de adjective:
  • careful - carefully, Quick - quickly
  • 2. adjectives die eindigen op -ic krijgen -ally:
  • economic - economically
  • 3. na consonant + y verandert de spelling:
  • happy - happily, angry - angrily
  • 4. -ble verandert in -bly:
  • terrible - terribly, considerable - considerably
  • 5. Sommige adverbs veranderen van vorm. Deze moet je leren:
  • good - well, true - truly, whole - wholly

Uitzonderingen

1. De volgende adjectives veranderen niet van vorm wanneer ze een adverb worden:

hard, fast, daily/weekly/monthly, early, late, long, free, straight, high, low

2. Na de volgende werkwoorden krijg je geen adverb:

to feel, to look, to seem, to taste, to smell, to sound
