Adjectives
An adjective says something about a noun
(= Bijvoeglijk naamwoord)

This is a beautiful song.
He has a loud voice.

An adverb says something about a verb.
(= bijwoord)

The singer sang beautifully.
He is talking quite loudly.

Exceptions #1
Be careful: spelling

1. adjective -le = adverb -ly
    terrible ➔ terribly
2. adjective: consonant + y   
    = adverb: consonant + ily
    Easy ➔ easily

3. adjective: ends with -ic
    = adverb: + ally
    Fantastic ➔ fantastically

With some verbs (senses/ zintuigen) you don't use an adverb but an adjective. 
to be (zijn)   /   to seem   /   to feel   /   to smell 
   to sound   /   to taste   /   to hear   /   to touch

It smells terrible.

Be careful: irregular

Some adjectives have a different adverb:
He is a good boy. ➔  He studies well.

Sometimes it stays the same:
fast   /   long   /   fair  /   low
That is a fast car.   ➔   It drives fast
