Writing a proposal - 5VCAE

Today you will:

• Learn how to write a proposal
  
• Learn how to form formal sentences in your proposal

You will need:

• CAE book p. 92 - 93
  

What is the purpose of a proposal?

1. You try to persuade readers to follow a course of action
   
2. Your audience can vary, therefore you should think about your writing style. Should you use formal or informal language?
   
3. In your proposal you have to make a persuasive case for action that should be taken, based on factual information
   

How do you write a proposal?

• Where possible, answer using your own vocabulary, not the words from the task. Planning before you write will help.
  
• Use the format of a proposal, i.e. a title, sections, headings, an introduction and a conclusion
  
• For the CAE exam: Keep within the word limit, but definitely check whether you have mentioned all the important info.
  

Read the sample answer on p. 93 and discuss the following questions:

1) Has the writer followed the task instructions fully?

2) Is the style appropriately formal?

3) How could the writer sound more persuasive?

Maybe the company could think about making a programme about wildlife in the region.

This might possibly include a feature on animals native to the region.

I should think viewers would probably find this quite interesting.
