Protect democracy
  • If one person became too powerful, he could be banned.
  • The Athenians wrote the name of the person they hated on a piece of broken pottery.
  • If you're name was on too many piece, you must leave the city.
  • This is called ostracism.

A king ruled the polis. His son is going to be the next king and his father was also king.
Tyranny
A tyrant seized power using violence. He has the power to rule on his own.
