Reading strategies

• Skim through the text and underline keywords.
  
• Note important words in the title
• Note important words such as names, locations, facts and figures.
  
• Note words that are often repeated and their synonym.

Quiz: Are you a hero or a sidekick?

First, we're going to do a quiz! 

You're going to read a number of situations, on which you have to give answer to the question: what would you do? 

1. You hear a scream in the woods.

1. You call the police and run home.
2. You call a friend to help you out, in case you can't make your way back.
3. You try to find out what happened.

You and your friend see a boy steal a woman's handbag.

1. You call the police and wait patiently with the lady.
2. You try to calm the woman down whilst your friend runs after the thief.
3. You run after the boy and get the woman’s handbag back.

You see a dog almost drowning in the river.

1. You do nothing. The dog will get out by itself.
2. You ask someone what to do, but stay on solid ground.
3. You jump in the river and try to save the dog.

You see a house on fire and a woman shouting
for help. What do you do?

1. You run around screaming: FIRE, FIRE, SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!
2. You call in the help of a friend, while you shout for help and try to put out the fire.
3. You call the fire brigade while you go in to save the lady.
