How did the war end?
Despite a ton of military power, the U.S. did not  defeat the North Vietnamese forces and the Viet Cong. In 1973, the Paris Peace Accords were signed, marking the beginning of the U.S. withdrawal. But, fighting continued until 1975, when North Vietnamese troops captured Saigon. This marked the official end of the war, and Vietnam was become 1 country again, but under communist rule.

After the war ended
After the war, many people who had supported the South Vietnamese government were arrested or sent to re-education camps, where they were imprisoned under harsh conditions. Others fled the country, leading to a major refugee crisis. Over 1.5 million people left Vietnam, often by boat, and an around 200,000 to 400,000 of them died at sea.
