STRATEGY
Determining your watching objective
You need to determine your watching objective before you start watching. You can watch for three reasons:
• to identify the topic, in order to understand the general information, which means answering the WH-questions.
• for specific information, which is about looking for specific details, such as finding a certain date, number or name of a person.
• intensive so that you understand the entire clip, including things such as feelings, opinions and arguments that are mentioned.

Theme 2: Sports: A Watching
1A Example key:
Andy Murray is a professional British tennis player who has won many awards. For example, he has been a three-time Grand Slam tournament winner and two-time Olympic champion.
1B Example key:
- How have you become so successful in your field?
- What do you like most about your professional career?
- What are some of the downsides of being such a famous sportsperson?
2B Intensive watching
2C Statement 2 is true: Andy's coach is very good at keeping his emotions in check, while Andy is still working on that.
- Statement 3 is true: Andy says that it's down to the British tennis federation to make tennis more accessible to kids.
- Statement 5 is true: Andy had set the goals of winning the US Open and Wimbledon and he achieved these goals. Now he has to sit down and come up with new goals.
- Statement 7 is true: Andy says that it's something that takes a lot of thought. He takes a careful position in stating that he has always competed for Great Britain, while also being proud to be a Scot. He leaves the matter at that.

Theme 2: Sports: A Watching
3 The federation can make the game more accessible, so that more children can play tennis. When more and more children play tennis, the greater the chance that a talented child will make it to the top. You can make a game more accessible by keeping the cost of a membership quite low, having good sports facilities, having sports facilities close to people's home, promoting sports at schools etc.
