Conditionals
Conditionals describe the result of a certain condition. The if clause tells you the condition (If you study hard) and the main clause tells you the result (you will pass your exams). 
3 types:
zero conditional
first conditional
second conditional

Zero conditional 
Used to describe general facts, to give instructions or for scientific facts
Consists of the present simple tense, because it always refers to a time that is now or always. 
if/when + present simple >> present simple.
  • If I drink too much coffee, I can't sleep at night.

First conditional 
Refers to a real or possible situation. Used to issue warnings, state facts or make statements about reality and about specific situations.
if/when + present simple >> will + infinitive.
If it doesn't rain tomorrow, we'll go to the beach.

Refers to a situation that is now or any time and is unreal. Used to express a hypothetical condition and its possible outcome.
if + past simple >> + would + infinitive.
