Which exercises should I discuss on the board?

Slide 1 - Mind map

Goals Chapter 3

Slide 2 - Slide

You can read off information from a graph
What whas the speed after 4 seconds?

Slide 3 - Slide

You can read off information from a graph
What whas the speed after 4 seconds?

The point on the graph with horizontal
coordinate 4 has vertical coordinate 18.

18 m/s

Slide 4 - Slide

You can use coordinate notation
Plot point A with coordinates (3, 5.5) in a coordinate system.

Slide 5 - Slide

You can use coordinate notation
Plot point A with coordinates (3, 5.5) in a coordinate system.

Slide 6 - Slide

You can find points of intersection
What are the coordinates of the
points of intersection of the line
through points A and B with:
- the horizontal axis?
- the vertical axis?
- the line through points C and D?

Slide 7 - Slide

You can find points of intersection
What are the coordinates of the
points of intersection of the line
through points A and B with:
- the horizontal axis?
- the vertical axis?
- the line through points C and D?

Slide 8 - Slide

You can find points of intersection
What are the coordinates of the
points of intersection of the line
through points A and B with:
- the horizontal axis?                            (10.5, 0)
- the vertical axis?                                  (0, 7)
- the line through points C and D?  (9, 1)

Slide 9 - Slide

You know what grid points are and what the origin is
Which points are grid points?
Which point is the origin?

Slide 10 - Slide

You know what grid points are and what the origin is
Which points are grid points?
Which point is the origin?

B, C and D are grid points
D is the origin

Slide 11 - Slide

You can work out which points lie on a line outside the coordinate system
If you extend the line through
A and B to the right, it will
pass through a point with
first coordinate 30. What is
the second coordinate?

Slide 12 - Slide

You can work out which points lie on a line outside the coordinate system
If you extend the line through A and B to the right, it
will pass through a point with first coordinate 30.
What is the second coordinate?

2 steps to the right on the horizontal axis is 3
steps up on the vertical axis. So 1 step to the right
on the horizontal axis is 1.5 steps up on the vertical
axis. From point (1, 1) you have to go 29 steps to the
right, so you have to go 29 x 1.5 = 43.5 steps up, so
you will be at point (30, 44.5).
The second coordinate is 44.5

Slide 13 - Slide

You can identify what the variables and units are used in a coordinate system
What variable is given on the horizontal axis?
What variable is given on the vertical axis?
What unit is used on the horizontal axis?
What unit is used on the vertical axis?

Slide 14 - Slide

You can identify what the variables and units are used in a coordinate system
What variable is given on the horizontal axis?
Time
What variable is given on the vertical axis?
Distance
What unit is used on the horizontal axis?
s (Seconds)
What unit is used on the vertical axis?
m (Metres)

Slide 15 - Slide

You can identify when a graph is rising, when it is constant and when it is falling
When does the graph rise, when does it stay constant and when does it fall?

Slide 16 - Slide

You can identify when a graph is rising, when it is constant and when it is falling
When does the graph rise, when does it stay constant and when does it fall?

From 0 to 6 seconds the graph rises
From 6 to 11 seconds the graph is constant
From 11 to 18 seconds the graph falls

Slide 17 - Slide

You can plot a graph from a table
- Bottom row of a table = vertical axis
- Top row of a table = horizontal axis
- Use a zigzag if needed
- Pick an appropriate scale
- Label your axes
- Use a pencil and (sometimes) a geotriangle!
(See LessonUp about plotting graphs)
