MRP Meeting 2

Benefit from self-regulation and setting your personal goals

Learning objectives

  • Self-regulation using Zimmerman’ self-regulation model

  • When do you consider your research project as successful

  • How can your core quadrants benefit or impede your trajectory

  • Formulate personal learning goals

Today’s work group (‘45)

Introduction (10’)

Assignment: Forethought phase (20’)

Self-regulation and how to identify relevant personal learning goals (10’)

Evaluation + end (5’)

Introduction (10’)

  • Who am I?

  • Who are you sitting at the table with?

 Introduce yourself by telling your name, your mood, and what

you can remember from the last meeting? (hint: what quality did you have?)

Introduction (10’)

Introduction (10’)

  • Discuss in groups of 4:

 Was the instruction as you expected?

 Are there still things unclear about the MRP in general?

 What concrete tasks do you think are involved during your MRP?

 Open the flowchart in canvas and discuss where in the process you are now.

Assignment: Forethought phase

Assignment: Forethought phase

  • The activity: Work in groups of 2 (max. 3). Pick a question from the sheet and ask it to your peer. If this leads to a short answer that is all right, but please feel free to ask follow up questions or open a conversation about the card. You don't necessarily have to make up all the cards. Take your time to discuss.

  • Result: You have thought about different aspects of the forethought phase considering your MRP

  • Time: 20 minutes

Self-regulation

  • What is self-regulation?

‘The degree that individuals are metacognitively, motivationally and behaviourally active participants in their own learning process’ (Zimmerman, 1996)

 This can be translated into 3 cyclical phases

Self-regulation

Self-regulation

  • How can I benefit from this?

Self-regulatory strategies can improve your academic achievement and growth by taking ownership of your learning process: you are able to set clear goals for yourself, monitor your progress and reflect on your performance based on these goals and strategies.

 Result: Less stress and/or anxiety, more motivation, more confidence, more pleasure, more focus / determination, more self-knowledge, etc…

SMART learning goals

Take a minute to note (a topic) for a personal goal.
