An adjective describes something or someone -> 
it says something about a noun (zelfstandig naamwoord).

2. My brother drives carefully.

Most adverbs are formed by adding -ly after the adjective.
Sometimes the spelling of the adverb changes:
terrible - terribly ; realistic - realistically ; easy - easily

Irregular  adverbs
There are also irregular adverbs. The adverb for good is well - She's a good performer. She performs well. 

A few adverbs have the same form as the adjective.
Fast (snel), fair (sportief/eerlijk), low, high, hard, long, late, loud  and straight (onmiddelijk) 
He's a fast driver, He drives fast

Writing excercise 
  • Write an internet alert about one of the people from the mugshots (next slide)   (7 minutes)
       - Give description of the criminal
       - Give details of the crime (s)he committed (type of crime, weapon...)
       - Give explanation of what people should do if they see him/her
       -> Look at the standard forms of incident reports in your book for help (p. 213, 218) + vocabulary list (p. 230)!
  • Use at least 2 adverbs and 3 adjectives!
  • Exchange story with neighbour -> underline adverbs, adjectives in bold type (3 minutes)
