Vragen met werkwoord to be of met hulpwerkwoord

Vragen met to be en hulpwerkwoorden (zoals can / may /should) maak je door het hulpwerkwoord vooraan in de zin te zetten:

You can swim very well.  Can you swim very well?

He is a good runner. Is he a good runner?

Slide 17 - Slide

Hulpwerkwoorden
1. be : is, am, are, was, were
2. have got - has got - had got
3. can - could
4. may - might
5. must
6. shall - should
7. will- would

Slide 18 - Slide

Vragen met andere werkwoorden

Voor de overige werkwoorden begin je vragen met een vorm van het woord "do"

Dogs like meat.  Do dogs like meat?

Bij he / she /it gebruik je niet do maar does.
Het werkwoord verliest de s omdat de s nu al in does staat!

He loves to play tennis.  Does he love to play tennis?

Slide 19 - Slide

Let op ! In welke tijd staat de zin ?

He was listening to music yesterday.
Was he listening to music ?

My cat drank milk last week.
Did my cat drink milk last week?

Ontkenningen met to be of hulpwerkwoord

Als er in een zin een vorm van to be (am / are / is) of een hulpwerkwoord (bv.  can) staat, dan maak je een ontkenning door not daarachter te zetten.

She is a lawyer.  She is not a lawyer.

Horses can fly.  Horses cannot/can't fly.

Slide 21 - Slide

Ontkenningen met andere werkwoorden

In alle andere gevallen zet je don't / do not voor het werkwoord.
Bij he/she/it wordt dit doesn't / does not.
Omdat de vervoeging met -s nu al in does voorkomt, laat je de s achter het werkwoord weg.

They live in Spain.    They don't live in Spain.
She works in that building.    She doesn't work in that building

Slide 22 - Slide

In de verleden tijd zet je in plaats van doesn't of don't, did voor het werkwoord.

Het werkwoord krijgt dan niet de vorm met -ed, maar het hele werkwoord zonder to.

They visited Manchester.
They didn't visit Manchester.
