An adjective gives information about a noun (person/ thing).

The place in the sentence is always before the noun

An adverb gives information about the way something is done.
(It says something about a verb.)

 Mary plays tennis wonderfully.

Exceptions:
Always, never, often, sometimes:
Come before the word they are linked to
