Join the largest letter-writing campaign in the country
Do you and your class want to fight for human rights? During Write for Rights we send massive amounts of letters and cards to help five people who are victims of injustice. And it works! Last year a lot of schools and students participated. And it really had a great effect! Is your school joining in this year?

Slide 2 - Video

Letter writing works! A short clip of why it works! The clip says " every December" .... This year we are holding the Write for Rights in November as we have more time before Xmas etc and we have chosen for the week of the 20th of November as it is Rights of the Child Day.
People in more than 170 countries and territories write millions of letters, emails and tweets.
.....for people who've been harassed, threatened and locked up, just for who they are .......
.....and put pressure on governments, leaders and decision makers .....
....... to make change happen - releasing activists and protecting people who stand up for change.

How it works
What can you do?
  • Join Write for Rights at School 20 November   2024!

  • Write for Rights at School will be supporting these five people
  • Write a postcard with your personal greeting and Amnesty Amsterdam will print your card and make sure it gets to its destination.
  • Or write on their behalf to campaign for their release.

Slide 4 - Slide

The next few slides show four of the five cases who we are writing for this year.

Choose one or more to show in the class depending on how much time you have. Or get the students to watch them at home.
Who are we writing for?
Again this year, we are writing for five people who dared to stick their necks out and were severely punished for it. Like Joel Paredes from Argentina, who was blinded by a rubber police bullet while participating in a peaceful protest. Or Manahel al-Otaibi from Saudi Arabia, who received an 11-year prison sentence after she shared photos of herself via social media showing her disobeying strict dress codes.

Write for Rights heeft succes!
