Er is een aantal woorden dat door elkaar wordt gehaald, waardoor je sneller fouten maakt in het Engels.


In de volgende dia's zullen deze woorden aan bod komen.


Doel: valkuilen herkennen en het juiste toepassen.

to / too
To = naar, aan
Too = te

Examples:
This present is from me to you. 

Don't screw the bolts in too tightly.

To = aan, naar, te
Voor een werkwoord kan de betekenis 'te' zijn.
You are wise enough to understand my explanation.


Too = te, ook
Don't screw the bolts in too tightly.

than = dan
Gebruik je in vergelijkingen.


then = toen
Geeft een tijd aan.

Your = jouw (bezittelijk voornaamwoord)
You're = you are (samentrekking van twee woorden)

Its = van het (bezittelijk voornaamwoord van it)

I parked my car in its usual place.

It's = it is/has. Het is/heeft (samentrekking van twee woorden)
It's time to go to the dentist.

their = hun (bezittelijk voornaamwoord)
They buy their school uniforms online.


there = er, daar (plaats)
Do you want to go over there

They're = they are. Zij zijn (samentrekking)
They're my best friends.


Deze drie spreek je op dezelfde manier uit, maar ze verschillen in betekenis!

were = was/waren (verleden tijd van to be)
