Pre-Intermediate 3: Online Introduction Class

Slide 1 - Slide

In this activity we'll look at some ways to help us study online.

Read and listen to the tips and write your own ideas at the end.

Tip 1: Create a study space
- It's scientifically proven that it's easier to remember information when you are in the same place you learnt it.
- Find a tidy, comfortable, quiet area in your house, and study there.
- Keep away from distractions like TV!

Tip 2: Take notes
- Taking notes improves how you understand information and boosts critical thinking.

- It helps you take external information from your teacher, analyze it, and remember it.

Tip 3: Set goals for what you're studying.
- Setting a goal means making a plan for what you want to achieve.

- Ask yourself what you want to do in your course each day.

E.g. What grammar am I learning?  What vocabulary am I learning?  Did I learn it?

Tip 4: Do one thing at a time
- Studying without a teacher in the room is difficult because they cannot guide you like in a 'real' classroom.

- In an online class you must guide yourself more, and learn more independently.

- Don't try to do too much. Focus on one activity at a time.

Tip 5: Take breaks
- Learning online can be difficult and stressful.

- The work will challenge you, but the technology will too.

- If something doesn't work or doesn't make sense, take  a rest and come back to it later.
