Border between city and countryside is blurring

TERMS

Urbanisation: People move to cities.

Suburbanisation: People move away from the citycenter to the surrounding area of the city (suburbs).

Suburbs: Living area at the border of a city.

Changing western cities

Old parts of cities are being refurbished. Warehouses and vacant factory buildings are being converted into homes.

This process is called gentrification.
